Angela Seddon graduated in Chemistry from the University of Nottingham, read for a PhD in Physical Chemistry, then was appointed British Telecom Research Fellow developing new mid-infrared fibreoptics at the University of Sheffield. Within the year, 1984, Seddon was appointed to a 'New Blood' Lectureship in Glass Fibreoptics at Sheffield. She was the first female Academic appointment since the Department’s inception in 1937. In 2000, she became the first female Professor in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham, and now leads the Mid-Infrared Photonics Group with World-class facilities for fabricating mid-infrared chalcogenide glass fibreoptics. Her research vision is to create a new paradigm in real-time mid-infrared endoscopy for early cancer diagnosis, based on chalcogenide glass fibre-optics.

Professor Salman Noach received his PHD in physics at 2003 from the Hebrew University Jerusalem ISRAEL. After few years of industrial experience, he returned back to academy at 2007, as a faculty member at the electro-optics department at Jerusalem College of Technology.There he founded the Solid State Lasers Laboratory. The lab is mainly engaged in applied research and development of CW and pulsed solid-state lasers, nonlinear optics, Raman wavelength shifting and Optical amplifiers in the SWIR and mid IR range. The results of the lab research were the object of 50 publications in high-ranked journals in the optics and laser community and two patents. He is a senior member of OPTICA and member of SPIE. Since 2021 he is a CTO of Laser Team Medical startup company develop the first ablative laser at 1.94 micron.

Martina Basini defended her Ph.D. in Italy, at Milano University in 2017. She then moved to Sweden, as a postdoc at Stockholm University and at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm.Since 2024, Dr. Basini is an SNSF Ambizione fellow at ETH Zürich, where she started her independent research to explore new paths to exert ultrafast coherent control of quantum materials. Dr. Basini’s recent scientific activities focuses on problems connected to dynamics and magnetism incondensed matter systems, using novel methods of pump-probe spectroscopy. Recently, she published the resultsof a study on SrTiO3 that showed that even in this non-magnetic material, specially designed pulses of lowfrequency light can generate a phonon-related angular momentum, that in turns drive the material into a transiently magnetic state. This transient magnetic state is associated to a surprisingly high effective magneticmoment, as measured using advanced optical spectroscopy. The result has had tremendous impact onthe field so far, stimulating a race to understand better the mechanisms of this effect. The results of Basini et al. have already been reproduced in several other labs, and a publication in the same issue of Nature demonstrates that this approach can be used to write, and hence store, magnetic information. In this sense, by inducing magnetization in non-magnetic compounds using chiral phonons excited by light, Basini et al. have provided a means of generating and controlling magnetic order in a wide range of materials.Dr. Basini is now continuing her studieson thegeneral aspects of electronic and magnetic structure in materials strongly driven by circular and ellipticallypolarized low-frequency light.

Yi Bao is an Associate Professor of Civil Engineering and the Founding Director of the Smart Infrastructure Laboratory at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey, USA. Prior to joining Stevens, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. His research focuses on the development of innovative sensors, materials, structural systems, robotics, and machine learning technologies for smart infrastructure. Dr. Xianfeng Chen is an Associate Professor, Head of Biophotonics & Sensors Group at School of Science and Technology, Nottingham Trent University, United Kingdom. Dr Chen has over 20 years' research experience in the UK, leading multidisciplinary research in photonics, 2D-materials and biomedical sciences. He is PI/Co-I of over 20 grants from the UK, EU and US funding bodies. He has authored 4 books/chapters, filed 2 patents, and published more than 150 papers.

Dr. Martin Spreemann is a Development Associate at Corning Optical Communications with over a decade of experience in product and process development for optical communication products. He has recently focused on fiber-chip connectivity for Co-Packaged Optics. Dr. Spreemann holds a Doctorate in Physics from the Technical University, Berlin.

Beata Brożek-Płuska, Ph.D. DSc., Eng. is a graduate (1998) and doctor of the Lodz University of Technology University (2002), where she also obtained her habilitation (2014). She is a head of the Laboratory of Laser Molecular Spectroscopy at the Institute of Applied Radiation Chemistry at Lodz University of Technology, Poland. Her research focuses on biomedical applications of spectroscopic methods with a special emphasis on Raman spectroscopy & imaging, IR spectroscopy & nanoIR, femtosecond laser spectroscopy. In studies she used also Atomic Force Microscopy to determine mechanomarkres of cancerogenesis. Her recent studies are devoted to identification of Raman biomarkers differentiating normal and cancer cells & tissues of human digestive tract in physiological conditions or upon pharmacological stimulation. She was a PI of several scientific projects. In numerous papers, she has presented that Raman imaging of single-cell supported by fluorescence microscopy, AFM & chemometrics allows for tracking many biochemical processes and monitoring cell-drug interactions at the subcellular level.

Sandeep Battula is the Co-founder and a visionary leader of Qualivon Technologies Pvt Ltd, a pioneering fabless semiconductor design company based in India. As a renowned expert in advanced semiconductor laser design, he is revolutionizing the field of silicon photonics ASICs for environmental monitoring applications.
